The first corners

One four-move trick, repeated until the corner clicks home. Your first real algorithm.

With the cross done, the white corners finish the whole first layer. Here is the method: find a white corner in the bottom layer, and spin the bottom until it sits directly below the slot it belongs to. You can tell its home by its three colours.

Now, holding the cube so that corner is at the front-right, repeat the four moves in the player: R' D' R D. Watch what happens: the corner rises into its slot, and if it arrives twisted, the next repeat twists it further. Keep repeating, two, four, sometimes six times, and it will suddenly sit flush and correct. Stop the moment it does.

The player starts with a corner popped out of place; one pass of the algorithm sends it home. On your cube it may take several passes, and everything else will look chaotic while you repeat. Trust it. The rest of the bottom layer restores itself every full cycle.

A corner stuck in the top layer? Hold it at front-right and do the four moves once; it drops to the bottom, where the method above takes over.

Finished when the white face is solid and a matching band of colour runs round the top of every side.

Every algorithm on this page is checked by simulation before publishing: the position shown plus the moves shown must produce a solved cube. Players: press play, or step through one turn at a time.
